da realbet: Hello internet, welcome back to another week where we discuss all that is the Fantasy Premier League, in which we take the five biggest talking points from the weekend as we reassess our Fantasy teams ahead of the title run-in.
da pixbet: After last week of just half the games, this week we will have to live with an international break, with the next set of fixtures being played at the beginning of next month.
This will give us some time to mull over the different options before the two set of Double Gameweeks, especially if your wild-card hasn’t been played yet.
But in the context of the Premier League title race, Leicester City maintained their incredible five point lead at top, beating Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park. Tottenham Hotspur kept up with their pace, easily brushing off Bournemouth 3-0 in a home clash. Arsenal also won a tricky game against Everton, but Manchester City were beaten at home by their local rivals United.
Here are FIVE FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE Talking Points from the weekend action.
Leicester look like champions
It’s hard to say, but pre-season relegation-favourites Leicester City are looking like champions, grinding out another 1-0 win just like Chelsea did in the tail end of last season.
And Riyad Mahrez scored once again from a Jamie Vardy assist, making it now 16 goals and 11 assists from the Algeria international, warning those prepared to sell him out for the double that he could match the points tally of those playing two games.
It is fair to say the same about the Foxes defence that has kept their third clean sheet in succession.
Kane outdoing Aguero
Branded a ‘one season wonder’ at the start of the campaign, Harry Kane has proved doubters wrong by already matching last year’s league goal tally of 21 following his brace against Bournemouth.
The Tottenham Hotspur forward had his second biggest points haul of the season with 16, pushing him to being even more essential that Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.
Aguero’s form has been somewhat mediocre of late, scoring just two goals (which were against Aston Villa) in their last five appearances. And despite facing Bournemouth (Away) and West Brom (Home) before their away double against Chelsea and Newcastle United, many are becoming fed up with his high 13.6 price tag not delivering the goods.
Danny Welbeck Arsenal’s new main man?
Ahead of an enticing run of games including a home double gameweek against Crystal Palace and West Brom, Danny Welbeck has emerged as a decent differential option for the Gunners attack.
After spending the entire season recovering from an injury, the England international has scored three goals and supplied one assist in his last five games, keeping France star Olivier Giroud out of the starting line-up.
With another goal this past weekend, Arsene Wenger is unlikely to rest Welbeck in their small hope of catching Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur to the Premier League title in their remaining fixtures.
Liverpool’s inconsistent defence
Liverpool are one of the most eye pleasing teams going forward under Jurgen Klopp with an array of attacking talent, but his defence is sometimes nothing short of disastrous despite taking the lead.
They were clawed back from two goals up to lose 3-2 against Southampton this past weekend, and were also pegged back from two goals up against Sunderland last month. Then there was that epic 5-4 game with Norwich City, which they were lucky to win.
Even with their enticing run of games, it seems that only their midfielders are worth drafting in, with Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino (if fit) the main contenders.
Marcus Rashford the real deal
The next big thing? Forget next, it seems that Marcus Rashford will lead the Manchester United attack until the return of Wayne Rooney, but even then Louis van Gaal will find it hard to justify taking the 18-year-old out of his line up.
The youngster terrorized the Manchester City defence, making Martin Demichelis look like a Sunday League centre-back for much of the night. Not only did Rashford get the winning goal, but he should have also won a penalty which would have earned him an assist.
At just 4.5, Rashford looks like an enticing option for United’s home Double Gameweek against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, which will free up funds to spend on players elsewhere.
