Tottenham captain Ledley King has stated that the ongoing transfer saga involving Luka Modric is negatively impacting the London club, and may be part of the reason for the slow start to the season.
The Croatia international has been the subject of at least two bids from London rivals Chelsea throughout the transfer window, and the diminutive playmaker has expressed his desire to join the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Despite this, Spurs are reluctant to sell their prize asset, and Modric played against Manchester City in the 5-1 defeat at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
The former Dinamo Zagreb man’s future is still up in the air with the transfer window closing on Wednesday night, but King feels Spurs need a conclusion one way or the other.
“It’s been ongoing for the whole of the summer. As players we want him to stay, he’s a great lad. The sooner it’s done, either way, the better. I don’t think it helps at the end of the day,” the 30-year-old told Sky Sports News.
“We’ve had this issue before with (Dimitar) Berbatov. It was a similar start for us then. I don’t think it helps in any way.
“As players you try and get on with the job the best you can. We, as players, want the window to close now so we can get on with the squad that we’ve got and get on with business,” he concluded.
